Eddie Howe lining up Newcastle reunion with Spurs striker Dominic Solanke?
Despite our league-wide reputation for being an attacking side under Eddie Howe, our forward line simply hasn’t been up to scratch in our domestic efforts.
Even with over £125m worth of strikers in the squad, without even factoring in Eddie Howe’s preferred option of Anthony Gordon, we head into the summer market in need of a new no.9 to finally start firing goals in.
But our issue isn’t exclusive to us; with the exception of Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago, out-and-out strikers have struggled in the Premier League this season, so we simply can’t afford to get this one wrong if we want to push for Champions League football next season.
And in the fallout of our cup exit against Man City, one Premier League striker has been linked with a switch to St James’ Park, and it’s a very divisive option…
Solanke back on Newcastle's radar?
According to The Mail, Spurs striker and England international Dominic Solanke has emerged as a potential summer target for Newcastle United.
With Spurs in crisis and facing the very real possibility of being relegated to the Championship, a raid of their squad is widely expected.
Solanke has struggled with injury this campaign, and has only recently returned to the first team squad where he’s bagged five goals in 14 appearances.
The 28-year-old has the obvious connection with Howe from their shared time at Bournemouth. Solanke netted four goals in 46 total appearances under Howe for the Cherries, but both would obviously go on to achieve a lot more in the six years since.
Solanke bagged 21 times in his last season for Bournemouth, scoring 16 and assisting eight last season for Spurs. When fit, he's scored goals, but injuries have halted his progress for much of 2025/26.
Based on his age and form this season, it's not a move that will excite many Newcastle fans, especially considering Solanke’s terrible injury record and possibly hefty price tag.
Other appealing Spurs signings surely available?
It’ll be a huge risk, but there’s a potential gold mine of talent available from the lilywhite half of North London this summer.
We’ve been tenuously linked with Dejan Kulusevski in the past, and though like Solanke he’s had injury problems this season, the dynamic Swede would be a welcome upgrade on some of our current winger options.
You would also imagine that neither Mohammed Kudus or Conor Gallagher will want to be in the Championship next season, and the latter in particular was strongly linked and admired by Howe over the past couple of windows.
