Anthony Gordon in 'concrete talks' over summer move - Sky Germany
Last week, Anthony Gordon was rumoured to be on the radar of Bayern Munich as the Newcastle United winger's future becomes uncertain.
It's no secret at this point that Newcastle will sell big players in the summer to fund a squad overhaul after a disappointing season. The season isn't over yet, but it feels like we can label it as disappointing already.
Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento already seem to be on their way out of the club if reports are to be believed, and the Magpies may not stop there when it comes to sales.
If Newcastle are to bring in up to eight new players in the summer, as is expected, then they will need to raise the money to do that because financial restrictions won't let them just go out and spend. How many big sales they can afford to make to fund these additions remains to be seen, because surely, at a certain point, it just becomes a false economy.
Isn't that 'tapping up'?
So whether Anthony Gordon is allowed to go will depend on what the board have in mind, but it looks like there will be solid interest in the England winger should they decide to sell.
Bild reported last week that Bayern Munich had opened talks with Gordon's representatives, and now Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg has corroborated the story by saying on X that 'concrete talks' have taken place.
However, Plettenberg does add that the clubs are not involved at this stage (isn't that tapping up?) and he maintains that Newcastle want Gordon to stay.
🚨💣 FC Bayern are seriously considering a move for Anthony #Gordon.
The 25 y/o is currently the preferred candidate for the left wing as a back-up and competitor for Luis Díaz.

Selling Gordon is possible, but not to Bayern
What adds another layer of doubt to the story is that Plettenberg mentions that Gordon would come in as backup for and competition to Luis Diaz, which isn't exactly going to entice him to move when he's first-choice where he is.
If Gordon is going to move in the summer, he's going to want assurances on his game time, so the idea of him being a backup to anyone isn't going to sell him on a switch.
We'd also question if Bayern would be willing to pay what we'd be asking for Gordon, who you'd have to imagine would fetch between £80 million and £100 million. They wouldn't pay £65 million for their primary target, Nick Woltemade, last summer, so we don't see it happening.
It's encouraging that Newcastle wants to keep hold of him, but if Liverpool and Arsenal decide to act, there's a big chance he may request the move.
