Alan Shearer delivers brutal Anthony Gordon verdict on live TV
Alan Shearer was in the commentary box for Amazon Prime on Tuesday night as PSG entertained Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.
The ex-Newcastle United skipper has been quite outspoken about Anthony Gordon recently amid talk that the winger could be on his way out of St James' Park.
While Anthony Gordon hasn't actually indicated a desire to leave the club, all signs point towards a summer exit with several clubs chasing the former Everton man, and Newcastle indicating that they would be willing to sell for the right price.
Other than in the Champions League, where Gordon has thrived, his performances this season have been way below expectations, and it has led fans to suggest that he simply doesn't care - a notion that has been heavily disputed by Eddie Howe on several occasions.
Alan Shearer’s brutal response to Bayern rumours
Alan Shearer recently spoke about Gordon, saying that if he doesn't want to be at Newcastle, then he should leave ASAP, and last night during the nine-goal thriller at the Parc des Princes, Shearer made another comment about the England forward.
Remarking on the rumours that Bayern Munich are in the hunt for Anthony Gordon this summer, Alan Shearer made a very telling comment that is hard to argue with. After commentator Jon Champion mentioned the rumours around Bayern's interest in Gordon, Shearer replied:
"He wouldn't get in this team!"
Anthony Gordon's biggest problem is his ego
Let's be honest, he's not wrong. It's what everyone has been saying since the rumour started to gather pace.
The best Gordon could hope for is that Vincent Kompany operates a rotation system for the squad so he gets a chance because he's not getting in the side ahead of Luis Diaz on the left or Harry Kane through the middle, or even Michael Olise down the right.
It could actually be the hit to his ego that he needs to be fair. Part of the problem we feel with Anthony Gordon is that he believes his own hype too much. When he puts together a few good performances and the rhetoric is about how good he is, it goes to his head, and he starts to play as if he feels he's too good to be here.
