Elliot Anderson shows his true colours in moment captured at World Cup
Newcastle United were forced to sell Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest two years ago in a move that devastated fans.
It wasn't just Newcastle fans who were bitter about the move, but Eddie Howe has made several comments suggesting that nobody at the club wanted to have to make the sale, and even Anderson himself has hinted that he didn't want to leave.
The academy graduate and lifelong Newcastle fan was sold to Forest for just £35 million, which was technically more like £15 million as the Magpies took Odysseas Vlachodimos the other way for £20 million. A double deal that nobody wanted, as Vlachodimos was absolutely not in Newcastle's plans.
PSR forced the sale, but Anderson went on to be a massive player for Nottingham Forest and has since become an England regular after turning his back on Scotland. Not only that, but this summer he completed a £116 million move to Manchester City.
Hey Jude? Nah, mate
It could be argued that Anderson wouldn't have developed to the point he's at now had he stayed at Newcastle because the competition for places was far greater than at Forest, and as such, he wouldn't have been given as much time to shine.
Regardless of what may or may not have been, Anderson showed recently that you can take the boy out of Newcastle, but you can't take Newcastle out of the boy.
In a moment captured at full time after England's win over Norway, as fans sang 'Hey Jude' to match-winner Jude Bellingham and when it came to the famous 'Na-na-na's, Anderson could be seen singing 'GEORDIES' rather than 'Hey Jude'.
Howay Elliot, give us something to cheer about
That's what we love to see. Well, actually, what we'd love to see is Anderson smashing in an absolute worldie past Argentina on Wednesday to win the game as Lionel Messi hands him the metaphorical crown.
He may not be ours anymore, but he's still one of our own, and if Sunderland fans can dine out on the success of Jordan Pickford for his entire career, we can piggyback off Elliot Anderson.
If only we could have afforded to bring him back, especially now that Sandro Tonali has gone. Damn you PSR/SCR/UEFA/Premier League/FIFA!
