England injury could see Dan Burn START against Norway’s Erling Haaland on Saturday night
Newcastle United's only remaining World Cup participant is none other than Big Dan Burn, who remains in the competition with England.
Not only did Dan Burn finally make his World Cup debut in the classic win over Mexico in the last round, but all the talk on social media has also been about how much of a colossus he was at the back.
Brought on at around the 74-minute mark, Burn was sent out by Thomas Tuchel to protect England's lead at all costs, and he did just that.
Burn made six clearances in his short time on the pitch, equalling the most of any player in the game and setting a record for the most clearances by a player at a World Cup coming on so late in the game.
Dan Burn is in line for an England start
The Newcastle centre-back also has a good record of keeping Erling Haaland at bay in the Premier League and could be a good option for Tuchel to have on the pitch on Saturday when the Three Lions take on Norway.
It may be a choice that Tuchel is forced into; however, as Sky Sports' Rob Dorsett has reported via X, Marc Guehi is a doubt for England.
"Marc Guehi rated as 50-50 for #england World Cup quarter-final v Norway. Hamstring problem not serious, but time the issue, and Dan Burn pushing to come in if Guehi doesn’t make it. Rice sickness shouldn’t stop him starting, and England have isolated the bug. Reece James desperate to play, but would be a big risk of him breaking down after so little training and with his hamstring problem far from fixed."
Make the right call, Thomas
Burn has certainly earned himself a place in Thomas Tuchel's starting eleven with his performance against Mexico, although there will be questions over whether the 34-year-old has what it takes to keep Erling Haaland quiet for 90 minutes or more.
From a Newcastle perspective, we'd definitely love to see our man on the pitch, but as England fans, we just hope that Thomas Tuchel makes the right call.
England v Norway kicks off at 10pm on Saturday. Come on, England!
