Major Anthony Gordon update from Keith Downie as Bayern make their move
Less than 12 months on from the Alexander Isak saga, another summer story is developing regarding Anthony Gordon's future at Newcastle United.
Daily updates are becoming the norm surrounding the England international, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona both heavily linked this week.
Sky Germany reports that Bayern have already presented a concrete proposal to Gordon's camp, while Barcelona were touted as a potential destination for the winger after his representatives were spotted in Spain.
Last night, an update from closer to home arrived from Sky Sports' Keith Downie, with the North East reporter revealing that Bayern Munich are now stepping up their pursuit of the 25-year-old.
Bayern open talks with Newcastle
According to Keith Downie at Sky Sports, Bayern Munich have opened talks and made official contact with Newcastle over a summer move for Anthony Gordon.
Writing on X on Thursday night, Downie reports that Newcastle 'will listen to offers' for Gordon, who is clearly angling for a move away from St James' Park this summer.
It's thought Newcastle and Bayern chiefs have a good relationship, despite some bitter comments about the fee paid for Nick Woltemade, although only time will tell if the Bundesliga side will come close to our asking price.
While German reports suggest Bayern are looking at a figure around the £55-60m mark, Newcastle sources suggest upwards of £75m will be required to land the former Everton man.
No Barca contact...as of yet
In that same update from Downie last night, the Sky reporter stated that Barcelona are yet to make any 'direct contact' with Newcastle over a deal.
Gordon's agents may have been spotted in Barcelona this week, but it seems the La Liga giants are yet to make a formal move, as of yet.
Chelsea have also been linked with a move, while Arsenal and Liverpool also hold historical interest in the versatile wide man who has 17 goals in all competitions this season.
So, a few things seem clear. There is high-level interest from Bayern, Barca appears to be waiting in the wings, and Premier League options may also emerge, with it seeming increasingly clear that the player wants to leave for a new challenge.
That's fine, but we'll have a problem if he does 'an Isak' while potential suitors refuse to pay considerably more than the £45m invested back in 2023.
