Newcastle reject Alexander Nübel part-exchange claims - Report
Bayern Munich are kings when it comes to penny-pinching in the transfer market, sometimes to their own detriment.
Last summer, the German champions refused to bow down to VfB Stuttgart's demands for Nick Woltemade, which left the door wide open for Newcastle United to swoop in and take the German striker from under their noses.
Lessons haven't been learned, it seems, as Bayern Munich are still playing hardball over their valuation of Anthony Gordon, which is around £15 million below that of Newcastle's asking price.
It's created quite the standoff, but Newcastle know that there are other clubs interested in the England winger, so they won't be panicking just yet.
Bayern to offer Alexander Nübel as makeweight for Anthony Gordon?
Reports in Germany recently have suggested that Bayern had another plan, and that was to offer 29-year-old goalkeeper Alexander Nübel as part of the deal.
Nübel signed for Bayern in 2020 and was said to be the eventual successor to Manuel Neuer. But Neuer has just signed a new deal and shows no signs of hanging up his gloves. Since joining Bayern, Nübel has spent three seasons out on loan and is due to return to his parent club in the summer, but it's thought Bayern will be actively trying to find him a new club.
That led to a report from German outlet Bild that Bayern would try to tempt Newcastle with Nübel to sweeten the pot in their bid for Anthony Gordon.
Thankfully, Lee Ryder has rubbished those claims with a post on X tonight after reporting on the rumours himself earlier in the evening.
Newcastle should avoid Alexander Nübel
Newcastle have been here before: Taking a goalkeeper they don't want to force through a sale. It didn't work out well for them last time, so it's good news that we're not looking to do that again.
We're still suffering from that last move as we can't find a new club for Odysseas Vlachodimos without taking a big financial hit, while Elliot Anderson has gone from strength to strength at Nottingham Forest.
The fact that Bayern think we'd want to take a goalkeeper off their hands that they clearly don't feel is good enough is actually insulting. I mean, Nick Pope isn't exactly great, but he's already our problem; we don't want to inherit another one.
