Newcastle respond to Anthony Gordon report after bold Bayern Munich claims
The Anthony Gordon saga has kicked into gear early, with it becoming increasingly clear that the Newcastle United winger is looking to leave this summer.
He's been left on the bench in each of our last two games by Eddie Howe, who admitted after Sunday's 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest that he's 'looking to the future' when asked to explain his team selection.
That felt like a clear hint, although it's already obvious that a summer transfer is on the cards, with Bayern Munich and Barcelona both credited with interest in the 25-year-old in recent weeks.
On that note, another update has arrived this morning, with some claims and counterclaims emerging on the progress Bayern have made.
Big Bayern claims played down
This morning, talkSPORT's Ben Jacobs claimed that 'broad terms' are now in place between Anthony Gordon and Bayern Munich, suggesting everything is all but agreed on the player's side.
He added that there remains a 'gulf in valuation' between the two clubs, but stated that talks are ongoing between Newcastle and Bayern, with Toon chief optimistic that our valuation of £75m-plus will be met given the volume of early interest.
In response, The Chronicle's Lee Ryder has clearly been on the phone to his sources at Newcastle United, who have issued a response to these rumours in return.
According to Ryder, Newcastle have quickly rejected claims that Gordon has 'agreed terms' with the Bundesliga giants, with Toon sources insisting this information is simply 'not true.'
Instead, Gordon is due to train at the club's Benton training base today, with any proposed move to Germany in the early stages, particularly as no fee has been agreed between the two clubs.
Has Gordon played his last game for Newcastle?
The England international winger hasn't featured in any of our previous four league games, with his last outing coming in that 2-1 defeat away to Crystal Palace in April.
Since then, he missed our trip to Arsenal and home defeat to Bournemouth, then remained an unused substitute in our 3-1 win over Brighton and 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest.
With only two games left to play - West Ham on Sunday and Fulham away the following week - it remains to be seen if our No.10 will feature again, with tensions high and fans aware that he has his eyes set on a big-money move away, much like Alexander Isak 12 months ago.
