Newcastle set for tough start & Sunderland dates revealed - Full 2026/27 fixture list
Newcastle United will get their 2026/27 Premier League season underway at St James' Park against very tricky opposition.
The fixture list for the upcoming season has been released, and Newcastle are going to have to be on top form right from the off.
Liverpool will come to St James' Park for the season opener on Sunday 23rd August (4.30pm), followed by a trip to Tottenham Hotspur, which should make for some interesting atmospheres given the current climate.
As things stand, Newcastle fans are pretty livid with Liverpool after stealing Victor Munoz from right under our noses, and there is a lot of talk about Spurs coming in for Sandro Tonali, so those things could add a bit of extra spice to a couple of tough opening games.
When are the derbies?
Newcastle will face bogey team Bournemouth at home as their third game, followed by a trip to Leeds United and a visit to newly promoted Hull City.
Once again, we're being made to wait for the derby with Sunderland coming to St James' Park first in early December (5th), and the Stadium of Light fixture will be at the beginning of May (1st).
Manchester City will travel to Newcastle on Boxing Day, which isn't the greatest Christmas present we've ever had, while Nottingham Forest come to Tyneside on 30th December to round off 2026.
What will Newcastle's squad look like?
The season gets underway on 23rd August this year. Does it feel like it's just getting later and later every year?
There's a long way to go between now and then and hopefully we'll have a shiny new squad in place, all fully trained and familiar with the ways of Eddie Howe, unlike last season when it felt like we were flying by the seat of our pants for nine months.
What are your thoughts on the opening few games? It's a good mix of tough and "easy", not that there is such a thing in the Premier League. Would you rather get the big games out of the way early or build up to them?
