Newcastle still looking for front-of-shirt sponsor for next season - Report
Newcastle United's new home kit was leaked a while ago, but there was one detail that is almost certain to change before the launch.
The latest Adidas home kit leaked online a while back, and several sources have since confirmed that the controversial design is what they are expecting to see the players wear next season.
In a break from tradition, the new design will see one big stripe down the centre of the shirt with thinner stripes radiating from it, but the leaks all show Sela as the shirt sponsor, which may not be the case when the actual kit is launched.
Newcastle's £25m deal with Sela comes to an end this season, and while the Saudi Arabian events company remains in the mix, the club are looking at other options ahead of the new season.
The Magpies want to close the revenue gap between themselves and the 'Big Six', and one of the best ways to do that is through commercial partnerships. One of the more lucrative partnerships going is the front-of-shirt sponsor.
Sela may disappear from Newcastle shirts next season
The Chronicle has reported that Saudia Airlines, which had been tipped to be a potential replacement for Sela, will not be the new sponsor next season.
They also report that even if Sela does not renew its front-of-shirt deal, they will remain connected with the club in some capacity.
Sela put on some exciting events at the start of the partnership with Newcastle United, creating the famous drone display above St James' Park to welcome the return of Champions League football, as well as the light display on the River Tyne and the Baltic. Not to mention the Sela Cup/Sela Weekend, which is expected to continue this year.
Will somebody please think of the aesthetics!
Newcastle are hoping that whoever takes the space on the shirt will pump in more than the £25 million paid by Sela for the last deal, but with the rules changing on shirt sponsorship going into the new season after gambling sponsors have been outlawed, the market may not be as lucrative.
We don't really care who the company is, as long as their logo looks good on the shirt. We all remember that infamous number 4 on the Castore shirts that was created by the placement of the Fun88 logo.
With such a controversial shirt design coming too, the last thing we need is a hideous-looking sponsor on there making it look worse.
