Nick Woltemade's future at Newcastle now completely uncertain - Sky Germany
It has been a funny old first season in the Premier League for Newcastle United's record signing Nick Woltemade.
The German international striker was thrown into the starting lineup following his record-breaking signing at the end of the summer transfer window.
Newcastle, desperate to replace Alexander Isak, brought in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa for a combined £124 million, with Wissa supposed to be the ready-made option for the starting lineup while Woltemade would be given time to settle and adjust.
Unfortunately, Wissa picked up an injury, and Woltemade was chucked into the starting lineup while Newcastle crossed their fingers.
Woltemade doubts intensify
Four goals in his first five Premier League games saw him hailed as a hero, but he couldn't keep up that record, and as the goals dried up, there was more focus on how he was playing. While fans liked the look of him, it was clear there was a disconnect between him and the team. Not his fault, but also not helpful when we needed goals.
As such, Woltemade has found game time very hard to come by of late, and when he is on the pitch, he's more often than not being played out of position, which is less than ideal.
Sky Sport Germany has reported that Woltemade is very dissatisfied at Newcastle due to his lack of minutes and claims that his future is 'completely uncertain'.
It's no wonder Big Nick is frustrated
Let's be honest, if he were happy, we'd have more questions. No player should be happy being left on the sidelines or being forced to play out of position.
However, we don't think that his future is in doubt. His massive fee will put off potential buyers because we can't see Newcastle wanting to take such a big hit on a player who still has bags of potential after just one season.
Woltemade never had a pre-season with Newcastle because of when he arrived at the club, so he had to learn to adapt on the fly, which hasn't worked for him or Yoane Wissa.
We believe that with a pre-season to work together, he and Eddie Howe will come to an understanding of how to get the best out of him, and we'll see the German star at his best next season. If not, that's when we'll look to move him on.
