Ross Wilson looking to expand reach in South America as new job listing goes live

Newcastle United have been scouring South America for new talent since Ross Wilson brought in Thomas Federspiel to head up the scouting network over there.

It has already yielded positive results after the Magpies managed to secure the signing of the exciting Ecuadorian youngster Johan Martinez, who will officially join Newcastle when he turns 18 next year.

Newcastle have been linked to plenty of players in South America in the lead-up to the transfer window, and while so far only the pursuit of Martinez has borne any fruit, the fact that we're identifying these young talents before any other big clubs shows we're doing something right.

Sporting director Ross Wilson must be encouraged by what he's seeing from his South American network, as a new job opportunity has been posted by the club looking to expand its South American operations.

Newcastle are focusing on South America

Argentina and Uruguay are the next targets for the Toon, with Newcastle advertising for a First Team & Global Talent Scout for those regions specifically, with the following posted as a job description:

"Act as a representative, ambassador and advocate for the club designated country, leading on the identification and assessment of players at both first team and emerging talent levels (Global Talent). Work closely work with the First Team & Global Talent Recruitment Department Operations Manager to recommend suitable first team and emerging talent prospects. Produce high quality, timely reports on identified potential targets, ensuring
alignment with the recruitment workflow and adherence to Club’s strategy"

While the job advert doesn't specifically mention the countries named above, it was The Shields Gazette who reported the locations that will be targeted by the successful applicant.

Fancy a job scouring Argentina and Uruguay?

Unfortunately, your extensive knowledge of the Argentinian and Uruguayan leagues from your time playing Football Manager won't be enough for you to be accepted for the role; you'll also need:

QUALIFICATION & TRAINING: Essential - Driving Licence. • Degree in a related field or significant equivalent experience gained within elite professional football • Desirable -  UEFA coaching certification Pro, A or B license. • FA level 2 or3 Talent ID

If you've got the relevant degree to back up your obscure knowledge of South American football, then go for it, but be sure to feed us the exclusives if you get the gig.
