Simon Jordan's Newcastle warning after Anthony Gordon’s £70m move to Barcelona

Newcastle United sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona last week for around £70 million.

The Magpies knew they had to sell a big player this summer, and it had looked for a while that Anthony Gordon was the most likely candidate to leave. Newcastle wanted a quick resolution, and that's what they got.

Newcastle may not actually be done with letting go of its top players this summer. There was talk that they may look to move on one or two big stars to fund a squad reshuffle.

This is where fans can get a bit panicky. Nobody wants to see their favourite players leave the club, so when a popular name starts being linked with an exit, it's easy to hit the big red panic button.

Simon Jordan hit the nail on the head

However, Simon Jordan was right when he was speaking on talkSPORT about Gordon's move to Barcelona. It's not so much about the player the club sells; it's what they do with the money they receive.

"For Newcastle, what does it mean? It depends who they replace him with. They've got £70million for him. Don't judge Newcastle by selling a player, because it’s no different than Liverpool selling (Luis) Diaz.

"Ronaldo was sold, every player gets sold, to some extent, from football clubs. For Newcastle, it's what they do with the money. If they upgrade him, because I think he's alright. I'm amazed that Barcelona think of him that highly - but fair play to him.

"He keeps on rising to the level. I think Newcastle fans were talking about the fact he reserved his best performances for European games, rather than the consistency of the league. But Newcastle got £70million. How they deploy it might be another question."

We will move on

We hate seeing our favourite players leave the club, but it never takes long for us to move on. A new favourite will always come along.

The only time it really becomes an issue is when they return with their new club and score against us like Elliot Anderson this season. That stung for so many reasons.

This isn't us saying we'd be happy clappy if the club were to sell Bruno Guimaraes. In fact, we'd be absolutely livid. But, if the money we received for his sale was reinvested properly and the team improved overall, then we could soon move on.

Perspective is key, but sometimes that perspective is hard to see in the heat of the moment.
