Gordon bags brilliant assist & has goal ruled out in England's opening game of U21 EUROs
Anthony Gordon has made a strong start to this summer's U21 European Championships, bagging a clever assist in England's opening game win over Czech Republic on Thursday night.
After being handed a start by Young Lions boss Lee Carsley, the Newcastle winger's smart back-heel set up Jacob Ramsey to give England an early lead less than 90 seconds into the second half.
The assist (which you can watch below) was well deserved, as the 22-year-old created two big chances that were missed by his England teammates in the first half. His smart turn and perfectly weighted cross for Ramsey came to nothing early on, while he also put Noni Madueke clean through on goal, only for the Chelsea talent to miss.
Gordon thought he'd made it 2-0 to England with just over 20 minutes remaining, but his lovely first-time finish was ruled out due to a foul in the build up. In the end, Arsenal's Emile Smith-Rowe made certain of the victory with a 94th minute tap-in.

Gordon played up front for the majority of the game, sometimes drifting to the left and often using his pace to try and get behind the Czech back line.
Great to see our £40m man kick off what promises to be a big summer with an impressive assist. Hopefully the first of many ahead of the 2023/24 season.
