BBC issue Toon transfer update - Three signings wanted & truth behind Kvaratskhelia claims
The BBC have issued an update on the Toon transfer front, featuring Eddie Howe's push for three new signings and an update on those Kvicha Kvaratskhelia rumours.
In his latest piece, BBC Sport reporter Harry De Cosemo writes that there is money to spend, but Howe wants 'quality over quantity' and is struggling to sign a Champions League level left-back, centre-back and wide forward with the limited funds available.
The report states that our club-record deal for Alexander Isak - where we 'pushed the boat out' to make that move a reality - and January's £40m move for Anthony Gordon has seen us push the boundaries of FFP restrictions. Our budget could yet be boosted through player sales, but the club have been forced to 'get creative' in our bid to sign quality players while playing by the rules.
On the subject of quality signings, the BBC had this to say on two wide targets: 'They like Harvey Barnes but a deal will not happen quickly, and Napoli’s Kvicha Kvaratskhelia is unattainable right now, despite reports.'
Our reported interest in Kvaratskhelia is not denied, but it seems like a non-starter this summer given our ongoing battles with FFP. As much as we'd love to see the Georgian sensation sign, a '£82m offer' seems hard to believe if we're dealing with such a strict and limited budget.
On Barnes, it's interesting to read it "will not happen quickly." Is this due to Leicester's demands or ongoing suggestions we may sell to buy the Foxes winger? With Saint-Maximin continually linked with a move to Saudi, it makes you wonder.
