Newcastle 'close' to January transfer boost - but Longstaff exit likely to be delayed
It's been made clear for months just how important January sales will be at Newcastle United if we're to sign this month.
PSR continues to be a tedious topic of conversation and the club are wary of leaving themselves short ahead of June's deadline, but there could be some good news on the way.
That brings us to Miguel Almiron and Sean Longstaff, with one moving closer to leaving after six years at the club.
Almiron exit moving closer
According to The Telegraph's Luke Edwards, Miguel Almiron is 'close' to sealing a January move away from Newcastle United.
Edwards reports that clubs from the MLS, Brazil and across Europe have been in contact over a deal or the winger, with several holding talks in a bid to agree on a fee.
No fee has been agreed as of yet, but talks are continuing with hope that a compromise will be met after Newcastle’s initial demands of £12m proved too much for many of the clubs keen.
The same will hopefully be true of the player’s wage demands, as Almiron had previously been asking for money that many of his suitors could not afford.
However, there’s now ‘growing confidence’ that the 30-year-old will leave before the January deadline, which could open the door for incomings on Tyneside this month.
Edwards insists that there is no guarantee a new signing arrives if Almiron departs, but his exit would free up funds, giving us room to manoeuvre without so much fear of breaching financial rules ahead of June’s PSR deadline.
Longstaff exit looking less likely...for now
Sean Longstaff is another fringe player who could depart this month, although The Telegraph report that a January move isn't looking so likely for the midfielder.
Despite some 'tentative interest', Edwards reports that the 27-year-old is 'not close' to finding a 'suitable club' at present, meaning a summer exit may be on the cards instead.
The likes of Leicester, Leeds and Everton have all been linked with Longstaff in recent months, but Newcastle's valuation of the player or his own demands are not yet clear.
