Agent breaks silence as Newcastle agree £11m exit - Reveals key demand after "big step"
Miguel Almiron is all set to rejoin Atlanta United and his agent has broken his silence on the situation.
With a deal in the region of £11m agreed, Paraguayan outlet Versus report that the South American has already passed his medical, clearing the way for the 30-year-old to finalise a move to the MLS side.
He is expected to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal - a big contract at his age - and could be joined by Benfica forward Arthur Cabral after an $18m bid from Atlanta.
Almiron's agent speaks out
Miggy's agent, Daniel Campos, has broken his silence on his imminent return to America, confirming he's got his wish of a long-term contract at a club where "people idolise him."
During an interview with Tigo Sports, Campos admitted it's a "big step" for Miggy to return to the MLS after several years on Tyneside:
“It’s a big step because he had some very good moments there. It’s a very organized club, people idolise him, he got a long-term contract, which is what he was looking for,” he said.
He also hinted that Almiron will play a major role for Atalanta, adding:“He’s going to be the one in charge of this team, they are putting together a competitive team.”
A deal that suits all parties
With Almiron now 30, out of Howe's first team plans and the club needing to free up funds or PSR purposes, this feels like the right time for him to go.
£11m is a decent fee to recoup given his age and lack of minutes this season after six years of service, while a return to Atlanta United feels like the perfect fit at this stage of his career.
It's a shame we are unlikely to replace him this month, but if selling Almiron now paves the way or a quality right-winger to arrive in the summer, I'm all for it.
All the best, Miggy - thanks for all of your efforts and THAT purple patch!
