Breaking news on Sunday - Newcastle agree £20m deal as new Kelly claims emerge
It looks like Newcastle United will bank even more than we initially expected for Lloyd Kelly.
Last night, Fabrizio Romano reported that a verbal agreement was reached over a loan-to-buy deal that would see Juventus pay £15m for the defender this summer.
However, some breaking news on Sunday afternoon from two north east reporters suggests we've now agreed an even better deal for the 26-year-old.
New claims on Kelly deal
According to Craig Hope at The Mail, The Telegraph's Luke Edwards and Sky Sports' Keith Downie, Juventus will now pay £20m for Lloyd Kelly.
They report that, along with a loan agreement that will send him to Italy for the second half of the season, there is a £20m obligation to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
Kelly has now been given permission to travel to Turin, where he will now undergo a medical ahead of a move to the Serie A giants.
David Ornstein of The Athletic has also confirmed the deal is going ahead, despite doubts earlier today that there wasn't a total agreement between the two clubs.
Quick profit but Toon left short
To sign Kelly on a free and immediately make £20m in the following transfer window is brilliant from a PSR perspective, especially as he'll be on pretty big wages.
I am not against the move from that point of view, but it's a slight concern that we could be left short at the back, with an injury-prone Matt Targett left as our only natural back-up option to Lewis Hall.
Hopefully Kelly settles in Italy and gets the game time he was lacking on Tyneside. All the best, Lloyd!
