Elliot Anderson ‘rejected’ Premier League move before surprise Forest switch

It looks like Elliot Anderson rejected a Premier League’s advances for him to leave Newcastle United shortly before he sold to Nottingham Forest for PSR reasons.

The Whitley Bay talent was reluctantly sold to Forest, with the club offloading both him and Yankuba Minteh in order to comply with FFP rules and avoid a points deduction.

Boyhood Mag Anderson wanted to stay in the north east, proven by his rejection of a previous offer, but has since gone on to flourish under Nuno Espirito Santo's Champions League-chasing Reds.

Anderson rejected offer before Forest move

Elliot Anderson rejected a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers last June before joining Forest to help Newcastle balance their books, according to Lee Ryder at The Chronicle.

Newcastle also rejected the bid from the Black Country outfit, giving the 22-year-old the impression that they would wave off any approaches in an effort to keep the Geordie boy at the club.

The Athletic also report that a new deal was in the pipeline on Tyneside to reward his first-team rise under Eddie Howe. However, our need to raise funds changed everything, sadly.

The midfielder was part of the club’s future plans but financial mistakes left the club open to be exploited in a vulnerable position with PSR, with Anderson representing pure profit as an Academy grown talent.

Three former Mags return tomorrow

Anderson will be returning to St. James’ Park tomorrow and joined by two other former Mags in the Forest line up.

Chris Wood scored a hat-trick on Boxing Day when Forest battered us at home in 2023, and it will be a big task to keep the New Zealand international quiet with his imperious form seeing him net 18 Premier League goals this season - one more than Alexander Isak.

Matz Sels has surprisingly been one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League this campaign after a difficult time on Tyneside.

The Belgian currently leads the race for the Golden Glove with 10 clean sheets, only Martin Dubravka (50%) has a better clean sheet percentage than Sels (40%) of keepers to make 10 or more appearances.
