Journalist reveals Eddie Howe's stance on Mbeumo snub as Toon plan for top right winger
Eddie Howe remains confident Newcastle United will sign an 'exciting' right-winger this summer, according to The Chronicle.
Following news on Monday night that Bryan Mbeumo has chosen Man Utd as his next move and demanded big money to make that happen, it felt like an early blow to many Newcastle fans hoping to see the Brentford star arrive at St James' Park.
However, it's Lee Ryder's understanding that Howe and his backroom team are relaxed about the situation, knowing there is 'other options' on our list and money to spend now our PSR situation has improved.
Howe is also focused on bringing in players who are eager to join this exciting Newcastle project and 'hungry for success', something you would have to question with Mbeumo after picking big money, a faltering project and no European football at Old Trafford over the Champions League on Tyneside and a chance to play alongside Alexander Isak in attack.
The Chronicle also reveal that Howe only wants to see the club break their current wage ceiling on truly 'world class' players, opening up the risk of unsettling current stars if a new arrival of Mbeumo's stature would immediately out-earn Isak, Bruno, Tonali and others.
Ryder reports that Mbeumo was demanding just shy of £200,000-per-week, which would've made him Newcastle's top earner.
Man Utd appear happy and able to pay that - it's another key reason why they beat us to Wolves' Matheus Cunha, it would seem - despite recent claims that Jim Ratcliffe has been forced to cut costs.
