Saudi PIF yet to sign off on two major Newcastle United moves - Report
On the pitch, it's been an unforgettable 2024/25 for Newcastle United, where Eddie Howe's Mags delivered a trophy and a top-five finish to bring Champions League football back to Tyneside.
However, our lack of activity or decisiveness off the field has caused some frustration, creating more questions than answers over the past 12 months in particular.
The Telegraph have reported on some unresolved issues that must be addressed soon to offer some clarity, not only at an executive level but for a fanbase who've been offered a lack of communication since Amanada Staveley's abrupt exit last summer.
Newcastle waiting for PIF sign off
As revealed by The Telegraph, Newcastle United have stressed the importance of making "the right decisions, not quick decisions."
That is an understandable approach, to an extent, but questions have emerged over the time being taken to announce plans for a potential new stadium and sign off on a replacement for outgoing CEO Darren Eales.
Newcastle's CEO search has now gone on for eight months and although that process is thought to be 'close' to reaching a conclusion, uncertainty exists over the first month of the transfer window.
Former Real Madrid executive David Hopkinson is believed to be the 'frontrunner' for that major role at Newcastle, but The Telegraph reveal that this appointment is 'still waiting to be signed off' by PIF, with Yasir Al-Rumayyan set to make the final call.
Considering Eales' announcement following a blood cancer diagnosis came last Autumn, it isn't unreasonable to have expected a replacement to be in place by now.
As for a potential new stadium, a move to Leazes Park and capacity around the 70,000 mark has been touted, but we are yet to hear confirmation of our plans, despite the club indicating that a decision was "imminent" in 2024.
After that, we were told an update would arrive in "early 2025", yet still we are unsure, leaving us to question if the process-driven PIF are taking time over a final decision.
Diving into a new stadium announcement would be incredibly naive given the logistical challenges, costs and considerations on all levels, but we'll have to hope the pace of our progress off the field quickens up when it comes to signing players, recruiting a CEO and Paul Mitchell's replacement.
