Emotional Bruno Guimarães won’t tarnish legacy to force Arsenal move - Report

Newcastle United fans have been left dumbfounded after it was reported that Bruno Guimarães has informed the Magpies that he wants a move to Arsenal.

According to David Ornstein, Newcastle's captain has told the club that he would like the opportunity to move to Arsenal this summer, with the Premier League champions keen on the Brazilian.

Yesterday, Bruno Guimarães posted on Instagram explaining how he felt after Brazil's exit from the World Cup. It was a game in which he missed a penalty that would have given his side the lead.

We know how emotional Bruno can be, and that defeat has clearly knocked him for six, and perhaps that's why he's thinking about his future.

Bruno Guimaraes will not force a move

The Telegraph's Luke Edwards has said as much in a post on X, but in doing so has also said that Bruno will not tarnish his legacy by trying to force an exit, and will only move if both clubs can agree on a price.

"I’m told Bruno is extremely emotional following Brazil’s early exit from the World Cup. This is probably his last chance to secure a big money move to a team competing for title and Champions League.

"But he does not want to tarnish his legacy at Newcastle and will only leave if clubs can agree a price.

"Newcastle's valuation is around the £100m fee they received for Tonali. No chance they sell at £50-60m
Very unlikely Bruno goes down the same path as Isak to force a move but he would like a move to Arsenal."

Newcastle are under no pressure to sell

We hope that what Edwards is saying is true and that Bruno isn't going to turn into a petulant child like Alexander Isak did to try and force a move away.

Newcastle have made it clear already this summer that Bruno is not for sale, and the fact that Luke Edwards is saying what we've said all summer, that Bruno's worth to Newcastle is far greater than what a club is likely to offer, does still bode well that Newcastle can keep hold of their captain.

If Newcastle value him at £100 million, which, of course, they do, and Arsenal are only willing to pay £60 million, then that's quite some gap to bridge, and it's not likely to happen. Newcastle still have him under contract until 2028 with an option to extend a further 12 months, so the only pressure to sell can come from Bruno himself.

As Edwards is led to believe that Guimarães won't do that, then this could end up being nothing more than a summer jump scare.

Let's not count our chickens just yet, though.
