Jamaal Lascelles Leicester City move has turned into a nightmare
Jamaal Lascelles left Newcastle United in January to drop into the Championship with Leicester City.
The former Newcastle club captain left the Magpies after 12 years on the books, moving to Leicester City to help the ex-Premier League champions with their Championship campaign for the remainder of the season.
With just a couple of games to go, it now looks almost certain that the Foxes will be dropping into League One next season, which will put a huge question mark over Lascelles' future.
Leicester are currently eight points adrift of safety, sitting in 23rd in the Championship ahead of only Sheffield Wednesday, who sit on minus three points after being hit with a total deduction of 18 points for entering administration and breaching payment obligations. Leicester themselves have had six points deducted for breaching financial regulations.
Even without that points deduction, though, Leicester would still be in the bottom three.
Things haven't gone according to plan for Lascelles
Jamaal Lascelles' contract at Leicester expires at the end of the season, so he may avoid the indignity of dropping down another league, but he's hardly coated himself in glory since his move to the East Midlands.
He's made eight appearances since his move and has yet to be part of a winning team.
Lascelles made all the right noises when he made his move, promising to go to Leicester and inspire the team with his professionalism and determination.
“I’m definitely going to add high standards, professionalism… for me, they’re non-negotiable. It’s the one per cents every day, dragging myself and other people on board and just keeping high standards. If you do that in and around the building, on the training pitch, it’ll carry onto the games."
Jamaal Lascelles left a lasting legacy at Newcastle
It's a shame that things haven't worked out for the 32-year-old since he left Newcastle after everything he did for us during his time here.
When the players around him were giving up, Lascelles took charge and made his voice heard and became an unlikely leader before officially being made captain.
His influence was so well respected that even when he wasn't part of the first team on a regular basis, he kept his captain title under Eddie Howe. Kieran Trippier and Bruno Guimaraes refused to lift the Carabao Cup trophy until Lascelles joined them.
He may not have been the greatest player to wear the famous black and white, but he will always be fondly remembered by the Toon Army, and I'm sure we're not alone in hoping he finds himself another club quickly in the summer, if indeed he does leave Leicester. He does seem like the kind of person who would ask to stay to help them get out of League One and back to the Championship.
