WATCH: Jamaal Lascelles faces angry Leicester City fans after relegation
Former Newcastle United club captain Jamaal Lascelles has shown once again why he was so respected on Tyneside.
The 32-year-old suffered relegation to League One with Leicester City on Tuesday night, just ten years on from when the Foxes won the Premier League.
It's a stark warning of just how quickly things can change in football. Leicester weren't helped by being handed a points deduction this season, but they would still have been in trouble without it.
Leicester signed Jamaal Lascelles from Newcastle in January on a short-term contract in a bid to add some leadership to the squad and help them rescue their season.
Unfortunately, following a 2-2 draw with Hull City on Tuesday night, Leicester's relegation from the Championship was confirmed.
Jamaal Lascelles faced an angry crowd last night
Even though Lascelles' contract expires at the end of this season, the former Toon defender was the only Foxes player to face the music last night as angry fans gathered outside the stadium demanding answers.
In a 24-second clip doing the rounds on social media, Lascelles stands in front of the braying crowd and takes a licking while the fans demand to know why he is the only player to face them.
Newcastle fans need no reminder of Lascelles' integrity, as it was he who publicly blasted his teammates for not putting in the effort during the Magpies' relegation season. That outburst saw the former Nottingham Forest man handed the captain's armband.
Jamaal Lascelles is Mr Integrity
Even when Eddie Howe took over, and appearances were rare, Lascelles still kept the title of captain, such was his influence around the club.
We still don't know what Jamaal Lascelles' next move will be after his contract expires at Leicester, but we wouldn't be at all surprised to see him sign another deal and do his best to get them back into the second tier at the first time of asking.
Apropos of nothing, Leicester City sacked Claudio Ranieri after he won the league for them, and they've pretty much been on the decline ever since.
