Newcastle could resume Tino Livramento talks - Report
For a couple of months now, we have been resigned to the idea that Newcastle United will lose Tino Livramento in the summer.
We've been operating under the assumption that the England full-back will leave St James' Park at the end of the season, based on the 23-year-old putting contract talks on hold with Newcastle amid interest from Manchester City and Arsenal.
Man City's interest seemed to be very strong for a long time, and it felt as though Newcastle would be powerless to stop Livramento from making the move.
However, the narrative is starting to shift of late due to Livramento's injury record and poor form since his return from his latest layoff.
Newcastle could keep Tino Livramento
It was seen as a risk when Newcastle paid £32 million to Southampton for Livramento given he'd just recovered from an ACL injury, but he managed to keep himself fit and his performances got him into the England set-up, but this season, with a much busier scheule, he's spent a lot of time on the sidelines and there's a suspicion now that could put potential suiters off making a move in the summer.
In his latest Q&A in The Athletic, Chris Waugh has suggested that Livramento's injury record and recent form could give Man City and Arsenal pause for thought, and he expects that contract talks with Newcastle could resume.
"Newcastle are still braced for potential interest and, given Livramento has two years left on his deal, they may need to listen to decent offers. But should clubs fail to get close to Newcastle’s valuation, it would not surprise me if contract talks soon resume, as it would be in the interests of both sides to tie him down for longer if that was to be on increased terms."
Is Newcastle's rebuild in danger?
Newcastle's big rebuild plans are starting to look a bit shaky. We don't want Tino Livramento to be sold, but at the same time, we need that money for the summer project.
Similarly, we'd rather keep hold of Sandro Tonali, but we were coming to terms with losing him in the summer; now it seems that potential suitors, particularly Manchester United, are starting to look elsewhere.
Anthony Gordon looks like the most likely big name to leave in the summer, with the Magpies setting a £75 million price tag on the winger, but we potentially need another big sale to boost the coffers enough to bring in the six to eight players we need to really move forward.
