Newcastle linked with Marcus Rashford as replacement for Anthony Gordon
Anthony Gordon is being heavily linked with a move away from Newcastle United in the summer, with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich reportedly very keen to take him off the Toon's hands.
Newcastle have slapped a £75 million asking price on Gordon and are willing to sell this summer. It has been reported several times that the England winger would be open to a move to Germany, so if Bayern come up with the money, we could see this move happen.
That will leave Newcastle with a big void to fill in the squad, but it's not like they haven't already been looking, having been linked with the likes of William Gomes and Said El Mala recently.
The Express has thrown out an interesting suggestion today, claiming that Barcelona's interest in keeping Marcus Rashford on a permanent basis is cooling.
Marcus Rashford's move to Barca is in doubt
It's now expected that Rashford will return to Manchester United, but the England winger will be looking for a permanent exit, which could be good news for Newcastle.
Rashford hit a brace at St James' Park for Barcelona in the Champions League earlier this season, which sent a message to the Premier League, particularly Manchester United, that he's still got it. He even got his spot back in the England squad, and it's now, ironically, between him and Anthony Gordon as to who starts on the left for the Three Lions at the World Cup.
Barcelona has a £26 million option to buy in their loan agreement for Rashford, but they are now expected to let him return to England after his form has dipped in 2026.
If Newcastle could negotiate a fee somewhere around that figure, we could pick up a bargain.
Newcastle could get some good years out of Rashford
It feels like Rashford has been around since the dawn of time at this point, but he's still only 28, so we could get a few good years out of him yet.
The problem is that in recent years, his form has been as inconsistent as Gordon's desire, and on any given week, you're never sure if he's going to score a hat-trick or trip over his own feet.
But if we could pick up an England international with an eye for goal for under £30m, are we really going to turn that opportunity down?
Rumour Rating: 4/10 - This is pure speculation by the Express, but it does make a lot of sense. If talks between Barca and Man United collapse, things could warm up.
