Kylian Mbappe names Newcastle as one of the best atmospheres in football

France star Kylian Mbappe has played all around the world in some of the most iconic stadiums in some of the biggest matches.

The 27-year-old has been there, done that, got the t-shirt, and it feels like he's been in the game as long as James Milner.

Mbappe has faced Newcastle United a couple of times in the colours of Paris Saint-Germain, and it seems to have left an impression.

Newcastle fans don't need to be told how good the atmosphere inside St James' Park can be, but we love it when we are told.

Kylian Mbappe loves the Toon!

In an interview with social media personality Fiago, Mbappe was asked to name the three best atmospheres he's experienced.

Unsurprisingly, Mbappe picked the stadium of his club, Real Madrid, the Bernabeu, as his number one. His number two pick was way out of left field: a game in the Russia World Cup when France played Peru.

The bronze medal went to Newcastle, though. Specifically the night PSG came to the Toon for Newcastle's first game back in the Champions League for 20 years.

"When we went with Paris. I think it was the first time they came back to the Champions League after 20 years or something like this. It was insane."

Can a new stadium capture the intense atmosphere of St James' Park?

St James' Park is a magical place, and when the fans are on form, there's nowhere else like it. This is the big issue facing the club right now while they debate a stadium move.

A brand new, purpose-built, state-of-the-art stadium would be amazing with all the modern touches that could make it one of the most truly spectacular stadiums in the world. BUT ... will it be able to produce the same atmosphere?

While there still seems to be no light at the end of that particular tunnel, it does feel as though the club is leaning towards building a new ground.

Many fans have speculated that the upcoming friendly against Everton at Murrayfield is a dry run for a potential ground share while work is undertaken at St James' Park. It doesn't necessarily mean that SJP will be getting renovated, as the plan is to build the new stadium right next to the existing site, which is likely to require St James' Park to be closed for a period of time.
