Lewis Hall pushed Liverpool's way by Danny Murphy
Newcastle United are expected to sell one or two big players in the summer to fund a huge squad overhaul.
At least that's what we've been led to believe, but it seems nobody has told Eddie Howe, who recently said he's not expecting as many incomings as last year, and the club will take a 'drip-feed' approach.
Whatever happens, the Magpies will need to raise money to comply with Squad Cost Ratio rules and particularly to ensure they stay within UEFA's rules, whether they qualify for European competition or not. We'll likely qualify for Europe again next year, so we'd be foolish to be in breach of the rules only to have to correct again a year later.
Anthony Gordon, Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali are the three 'big' players most strongly linked with a move away, although there have been significant doubts over Livramento's exit given his injury record, despite apparent talks with Arsenal.
Much will depend on how many players Newcastle wants or needs to sell, along with the money potential buyers stump up, but we'd like to think that one of our untouchables is Lewis Hall.
Murphy wants Liverpool to move for Lewis Hall
Hall has been a revelation at left-back this season, and even though he's fallen out of favour suddenly, we expect he's still a big part of Eddie Howe's plans.
That's unless former Liverpool full-back Danny Murphy gets his way, as the pundit told Betarades (via The Mirror) that Liverpool boss Arne Slot should replace Andy Robertson with the former Chelsea talent.
"It’s probably unlikely you’re going to get him out because it it looks like [Sandro] Tonali might go and [Anthony] Gordon might go, but if Newcastle do have to sell and you can pinch him, even if you have to pay a bit more for him.
"He’s still a young man, he’s got the Premier League experience, and I think he’s been one of Newcastle’s shining lights this season.
"There’s a lot of great left-backs out there not worth mentioning because I don’t think you’d tear them away from PSG, Bayern Munich, and they’re at some of the biggest clubs in the world, and you’d like to be able to grab them and take them, but I’m not sure."
Lewis Hall is going nowhere
There have been murmurs on social media that Hall has had a falling out with Eddie Howe, but that always seems to be the rhetoric from online chancers when a popular player is suddenly out of the first team.
No actual news outlets have even hinted at a falling out, so we're not worried. However, that would be the only way we could see Hall leaving the club in the summer if he could no longer work with Howe.
Hall is a Newcastle fan, so he won't want to leave. He's been arguably our best player this season (a low bar, I know), so the club won't want to part with him.
Danny Murphy will just have to keep dreaming.
