Lewis Hall update as Newcastle brief Luke Edwards after Manchester United links
There has been a lot of talk in the media of late regarding Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall moving to Manchester United.
Depending on which side of the Pennines you get your news, Lewis Hall is either moving to Manchester United because he's annoyed he didn't get into the England squad, or he's going absolutely nowhere.
Manchester-based news is adamant that Man United can make a deal for the 21-year-old Newcastle star. They are claiming that Hall is blaming being a Newcastle player for not getting picked for Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad. However, that theory falls apart as soon as you look at the England squad.
Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon (who was a Newcastle player at the time he was called up) all made it, so geography was clearly nothing to do with why Hall was left behind.
“There is no situation”, say Newcastle
The Telegraph's Luke Edwards has done his job and reached out to his sources inside Newcastle United to ask about the situation with Hall.
Reporting his findings on X, Luke Edwards confirmed that he was met with the response of 'there is no situation'.
"On Lewis Hall. Newcastle are aware of talk in the media about Manchester United interest but have not had any contact with the club and have not been told the player wants to leave.
“Asked what the situation with Hall is the reply I received was “there is no situation.”"Very early days in the summer. More to follow I’m sure."
We are relaxed but not complacent
Newcastle fans shouldn't get too complacent, though. We heard these noises from the club many times last year whenever anyone asked about the Alexander Isak situation.
However, there has been nothing to suggest that Hall is looking for a way out of Newcastle, and we can always bank on that extra layer of protection of him being a Newcastle fan. He's more likely to put up with things not going his way than someone who has no affinity for the club.
The quoted £50 million price tag seems way too low, too. While it is being reported as 'at least £50m', we don't even feel that's a decent starting point for a player who cost £32 million with add-ons and has improved massively since then.
