Lewis Hall targeted by Manchester United - The Athletic
After selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70m, it would be thought that the pressure is off Newcastle United to make any more 'big' sales.
Newcastle CEO David Hopkinson made it clear early on that Newcastle would likely have to sell some big players to fund the summer rebuild, and before the window has even opened, they've offloaded Anthony Gordon for a tidy sum.
That doesn't mean Newcastle is done selling its top players this summer, but it likely does mean they can be selective about who they let go.
Lewis Hall is attracting attention, but the 21-year-old has established himself as an important player for Newcastle, and they aren't likely to sell.
The Athletic claims Man United want Lewis Hall
That doesn't mean that we won't have to face up to temptation, and The Athletic has covered Manchester United's interest in its latest DealSheet, claiming that any deal for Hall would be worth in excess of £50 million.
"Lewis Hall is among the options being considered at left-back, raising the prospect of a move for a player whose path crossed with director of recruitment Christopher Vivell at Chelsea.
"Newcastle are not looking to sell the 21-year-old, but the St James’ Park club are expected to significantly reshape their squad this summer, and while Hall has established himself under Eddie Howe, he has not always been in favour since joining in 2023.
"Although Anthony Gordon’s €80m move to Barcelona means Newcastle are not necessarily prioritising sales, they may consider further exits to help fund incomings. Any deal for Hall could be worth north of £50m."
Unless there's something off behind the scenes - no chance!
We don't foresee Newcastle entertaining the idea of allowing Lewis Hall to leave, and similarly we don't see him pushing to do so.
Unless there's something off between Hall and Eddie Howe, we don't see the boyhood Newcastle fan leaving the club at the first opportunity, especially when he's earned such a special place in Geordie hearts with his performances this season.
There were rumblings on social media towards the end of last season that the full-back and the manager had fallen out, but every time a player is dropped, that's the rhetoric that pops up with little to no evidence to support the claims.
Rumour Rating: 4/10 - No doubt Manchester United are keen. We just don't see Newcastle or Hall himself being accommodating to the move.
