More misinformation around Bruno Guimaraes amid Arsenal links

Bruno Guimaraes is the subject of plenty of speculation right now, with reports that Arsenal are ready to make a move for the Newcastle United captain.

So far, the official word is that there have been no club-to-club talks, but there have been rumours of talks between Bruno's people and Arsenal's people.

There are additional reports about an intermediary warning Newcastle of an incoming bid, but again, nothing concrete as yet. As The Chronicle has pointed out, a similar thing happened in January with Sandro Tonali and Arsenal, and nothing came of that either.

The Chronicle also claims that Arsenal believe they can snap up the midfielder for £65 million. Bizarrely, there have even been claims of a release clause in his contract.

Release clause rumours have been rubbished

Some reports claim that Bruno has a release clause in the event that Newcastle fails to qualify for the Champions League, which, of course, they did last season, but sources at the club have denied such a claim.

Newcastle are absolutely adamant that their captain is not for sale, and there's nothing to suggest that Bruno is angling for a move either.

Hopefully, Newcastle will stick with this stance all summer as there are some deals that just aren't worth doing.

Bruno's market value is nowhere near his value to the club

The figures quoted in the press about this deal range from £45 million to £60 million, and while that could be a fair reflection of the 28-year-old's worth on the market, it's nowhere near what he's worth to Newcastle.

We have seen just how much worse we are when Bruno Guimaraes is not on the pitch for Newcastle, and we don't have anyone in the squad who could replace him. Selling Bruno and trying to replace him would be a huge risk that would not be worth taking.

We will have to find a way to replace him eventually, but in our eyes, the best way to do that is to have someone in the club who can learn from him and then take over when he leaves.

We're still pretty relaxed about the whole situation with Bruno. It feels like a lot of media spin once again trying to disrupt players for the benefit of the 'Big Six'. We're just surprised it's not our old mate Fabrizio Romano stoking the fires. This feels like a story he'd love to be spinning. Maybe he's too busy trying to get Granit Xhaka to Chelsea.
