Newcastle set to reject Malick Thiaw approach from Man Utd - Report
Newcastle United may have a fight on their hands to keep hold of German centre-back Malick Thiaw this summer.
Malick Thiaw arrived at Newcastle United in the summer and has been widely regarded as the Magpies' best signing of that much-maligned window.
The German joined from AC Milan after a lengthy pursuit and was quickly thrown into the starting lineup after Fabian Schar picked up an injury. Thiaw made the position his own, keeping Schar out of the side when he returned to fitness.
The 24-year-old has been an almost ever-present feature in the starting lineup ever since, and while his defensive displays have been rock solid for the most part, he's also impressed with his goal-scoring prowess.
Manchester United and Bayern Munich want Malick Thiaw
It's no real surprise, then, that rumours about other clubs being keen to take him off our hands have started to surface, with SportsBoom claiming that Thiaw is a top target for Manchester United.
They also claim that Bayern Munich could be keen to launch a summer raid for the German international.
However, it's understood that Newcastle have absolutely no intention to sell him, despite having made it clear that they would be open to selling one or two big players this summer.
Thiaw signed a four-year deal when he arrived last summer, so there's no pressure for the Magpies to sell, either, which means they could name a ridiculous price for him.
It's not happening
We can't see any world in which Newcastle would contemplate selling Thiaw after his exploits this season. Unless the player himself says he wants to move, he should be very high up on the 'players to keep' list.
If we could get some consistency out of Sven Botman, particularly in terms of his availability, the pair make a pretty good partnership that has the potential to grow into something excellent.
We'd certainly be livid if Newcastle even entertained the idea of moving Thiaw on in the summer.
Rumour Rating: 2/10 - No way Newcastle entertain the sale of Thiaw. The source of this story also leads us to believe there's not a lot to this one.
