Newcastle want £90m for Bruno Guimaraes - Fabrizio Romano

There's no surprise that the story dominating the headlines today is that Bruno Guimarães wants a move to Arsenal.

David Ornstein broke the news on Wednesday evening that Bruno Guimarães has told Newcastle United he'd like to join Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners have been sniffing around the Toon captain all summer, with reports suggesting that talks had taken place with intermediaries during the World Cup, with Arsenal preparing bids for the Brazilian midfielder.

Newcastle's stance has been, and remains, that Bruno is not for sale. But let's be honest, every player has a price.

Fabrizio Romano claims Newcastle want £90m for Bruno

Last night, it was revealed that £75 million could be enough to get Newcastle to agree to Bruno's exit, but now Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the figure is likely to be closer to £90 million.

On YouTube and on X, Romano has claimed that Mikel Arteta is the driving force behind Arsenal's interest in Guimarães, but speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano confirmed reports that Bruno will not force a move away and will only leave if the clubs can agree a fee.

The two clubs are miles apart on valuation, however, so there's a lot of work to be done, and there's still a big chance that nothing comes of this talk.

Romano mentions the reported £55 million bid that was batted away by Newcastle, along with a proposal of a new £65 million bid that was also rejected out of hand by the Magpies.

Romano has no information from Newcastle's side

We, of course, have to point out that Fabrizio Romano has no contacts at Newcastle, so all of his information will be coming from the Arsenal/Bruno side of things. Anything Romano says about Newcastle and their demands, we can take with a huge pinch of salt.

That being said, the agents involved in the story are definitely the type to be feeding Romano information (and likely huge wads of cash) to keep spinning the story to destabilise Bruno.

There's no way Newcastle would get £90 million for a player about to turn 29, but as we said last night, even £75 million would be a great bit of business.

The problem, as we keep saying, is that he's almost irreplaceable. He's certainly irreplaceable on such a truncated timeline with no plan in place, so we're keeping everything crossed that nothing comes of this.
