Newcastle’s transfer priorities go public as Ross Wilson eyes further additions
Newcastle United have several key positions to improve this summer, with progress already being made before the transfer window has even opened.
It has been a long time since Newcastle was this proactive in the transfer market. The window officially opens on Monday, and Newcastle have already sold Anthony Gordon to Barcelona and brought in Ewen Jaouen from Stade de Reims.
Meanwhile, there are strong indications that Spain winger Victor Munoz will soon become a Newcastle player as talks between the Magpies and Osasuna continue.
Victor Munoz is reportedly keen on the switch, and personal terms aren't thought to be an issue. So what's next for the Ross Wilson revolution?
James Trafford is back in the conversation
Despite the signing of Ewen Jaouen, it's expected that Newcastle is not finished looking for goalkeepers. According to several reports, the Magpies are once again looking at James Trafford.
A report in the iPaper confirms that Newcastle have approached Man City with an enquiry over the England international, but any move would heavily depend on price and Trafford himself, who knocked back Newcastle last summer to return to City, albeit under what ended up proving to be false promises.
Beyond signing a more senior goalkeeper - although not by much if it proves to be Trafford - Newcastle are thought to be in the market for a right-back and a No. 6.
A right back makes perfect sense as Emil Krafth and Kieran Trippier have both left the club, leaving just Tino Livramento.
Will Newcastle finally get a proper No.6?
Newcastle have long been credited with an interest in bringing in a defensive midfielder but have never actually brought one in, so will this finally be the window in which we see that happen?
Bringing in a No. 6 suggests that there could be a change afoot in Eddie Howe's tactics. We've speculated on this every time a No. 6 is mentioned, but without having the player in place, it's hard to know what the plan is.
We can definitely see the benefit of having a holding midfielder, someone who can allow Bruno Guimaraes to get further up the field as he seems a lot happier when he's supporting the attack.
