Nick Woltemade asks for clarity at Newcastle, not early exit - Report
Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade is reportedly unhappy with his role at the club but won't be seeking an exit in the summer.
A report from Germany has claimed that Newcastle's record signing is unhappy after being left on the bench most of the time and being played out of position when he does play.
It's an understandable reaction, and as we said when we covered that report, we'd be more worried if he wasn't unhappy, as it would show poor character.
The German striker has been linked with a move away from Newcastle in the summer after a very strange first season in English football. A move back to Germany has been touted many times, but the figures involved in a sale would make it nigh-on impossible.
Nick Woltemade is committed to Newcastle
Fortunately, then, according to The Chronicle, the 24-year-old will not push for a move away from the club in the summer.
Instead, Woltemade will sit down with Eddie Howe and seek assurances over his role in the team.
Woltemade's actions at full-time on Saturday spoke volumes as he headed down the tunnel earlier than the other players who went on their traditional lap of honour after a long-awaited win.
The Chronicle reports that Big Nick remains committed to the six-year deal he signed in the summer, but he will want to know where he stands before next season.
Next season will be huge for Nick Woltemade
We think this is fair enough from the forward. He's been left out in the cold a lot this season despite such a strong start to his Newcastle career.
It's clear that his style and Eddie Howe's aren't compatible, but they've not had the time required on the training pitch to work that out.
With a full pre-season to come, at least when he returns from the World Cup, we expect we'll see a much better Nick Woltemade in black and white next term.
That does mean, however, that it could be Yoane Wissa who is moved on in the summer, as it does feel inevitable that at least one of our strikers will be sold after such a low-scoring season.
