Pat Nevin backs Anthony Gordon to join Bayern Munich
Anthony Gordon's Newcastle United career appears to be coming to an end amid endless reports around a move to Bayern Munich.
The German side has been told that if they come up with £75 million, Newcastle will be open to the sale.
There's also interest in Gordon closer to home, with Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly keen on the England winger.
Newcastle are in a position where they have to sell in the summer to raise funds for a huge squad rebuild, and bringing in £75 million for Anthony Gordon would go a long way towards facilitating that squad shuffle.
'You don't turn down Bayern'
Former Everton man Pat Nevin has been speaking to Mega Casino (via The Chronicle), and the former Scotland international says that Gordon would be foolish to turn down a move to the German champions, but also suggests Liverpool could be his destination.
"You don't turn down Bayern, you just don't. Look what it's done for Harry Kane. Look what it's done for Michael Olise. It's been brilliant for them. I spent a lot of time in the Allianz going to games over the years. What a place.
"You're going to win trophies, which is a good thing. Anthony's won the trophy within Newcastle which was great. Evertonians will remember about Anthony. When it's right for him he'll get going, he'll leave and that's fine because that's just the modern game. That's just what happens.
"The good thing for Newcastle is they will get a lot of money, they could reinvest it, hopefully wisely. You know there is something I’m deliberately not mentioning, Liverpool! Because, to be honest, here's the weird thing, Liverpool's not out of the question.
It's going to be a rough couple of months for Gordon
The Newcastle fans are already starting to turn on the 25-year-old amid the latest exit rumours, particularly after he wasn't included in the squad to face Bournemouth on Saturday under suspicious circumstances.
It may well just have been a coincidence that he picked up an injury around the same time Eddie Howe publicly said that he will not select players who aren't 100% invested in the club, but fans certainly aren't reading it that way.
There's a chance Gordon could be back in contention for Saturday against Arsenal. Our worry is the reception he's going to get when he does make his return.
He's probably already made up his mind that he's going, so the fans won't influence that decision, but as long as he's here and playing, we want him to play well, and giving him stick could affect that.
Right now, he's a Newcastle player, and we need to back the lads. Then we can call him whatever when he leaves. Let's not go all Everton about it.
