Sean Dyche hails Newcastle legend Kieran Trippier as best player he's worked with

Kieran Trippier may have left Newcastle United, but his legacy lives on. The right-back was a fan favourite and meant so much to the Toon Army.

It was Kieran Trippier who set the standard for the new ownership. He was the first player through the door for Eddie Howe, and Newcastle signing a player of Trippier's quality, especially as they were sitting 19th in the Premier League at the time, really sent a message that things were about to change.

Trippier quickly established himself as a leader at the club and went on to be part of the leadership group that brought a domestic trophy back to Tyneside for the first time in 70 years.

There was a spell where his form dropped off a cliff as personal issues clearly interfered with his ability to concentrate, but he bounced back and was one of our better players in his final season, ensuring that when he left, he left with his head held high.

Kieran Trippier nearly made Sean Dyche cry

Newcastle fans adored Kieran Trippier, and the millionaire will never have to buy a pint in the Toon ever again, and he won't have to buy his own drinks if he's ever on the lash with Sean Dyche either, it seems. The former Burnley boss has been speaking to talkSPORT, where he has said that Trippier is the best player he's ever worked with before going on to share a special memory.

“Kieran Trippier, when I had him as a youngster, he was like a bit of a butterball, but you could tell his talent,” he said. “Incredibly talented, way, way better, I mean people know he's talented, but he's a very, very good player.

“I always say he's got a right foot like lefties. You know how lefties always seem to have a wonderful left foot? He's got every club in the bag in his right foot; he can do anything. And a great lad, I still see him now, I still speak to him - fantastic.

“My fondest memory was when he FaceTimed me on the pitch when he won La Liga. That's my fondest memory in football, apart from winning things; for an ex-player to do that was incredible. I nearly had a tear in my eye!”

Trippier is going to boss the Championship

Trippier shocked everyone when he chose to move to Wolverhampton Wanderers when he left Newcastle. We were sure he would have moved abroad, but the former England man chose to step down to the Championship to help the relegated side bounce back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

However, just days after signing and citing Rob Edwards as a driving force behind his decision, Edwards was let go by Wolves and replaced by César Peixoto. Rumours went around that Trippier would rip up his Wolves contract and look for another club, but that hasn't happened, and he looks set to stay.

Even at 35, we expect Trippier to run circles around teams in the Championship. He proved he could still do it at the highest level with Newcastle many times last season.
