Update on Tino Livramento's future as Arsenal eye Newcastle defender
Newcastle United are aware that a few of their top players will be targets for the so-called 'bigger' clubs, especially after such a difficult season.
The likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and both Manchester clubs have been linked with some of our biggest stars already this summer, particularly Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento.
There are no guarantees that either of those players will be on Newcastle's books when the new season gets underway. There have even been reports that there are those inside Newcastle who don't just fear Tonali's exit; they're expecting it.
Meanwhile, Livramento has been linked with Arsenal since the season wrapped up, with some reports suggesting the Gunners are weighing up a move.
No bids for Tino Livramento ... yet
Fortunately for Newcastle, there's a consistent theme in these reports that Newcastle's asking price is putting off clubs from making a bid.
The Chronicle's Lee Ryder has now confirmed via X that Arsenal have not made an approach for the 23-year-old despite reports to the contrary.
"Understand that there's been NO approach for Tino Livramento from Arsenal at all so far this summer, despite various reports"
Anything can happen between now and the 1st September
It's too soon to breathe a sigh of relief, however, particularly if Tino goes on to star for England at the World Cup. Suddenly his injury issues and hefty price tag may not be as much of a problem.
Our feeling is that Livramento stays this summer, but confidence is waning that we're able to keep hold of Tonali. We do feel it's highly unlikely that Newcastle allows both stars to leave.
That being said, the policy of selling players who no longer want to be at the club could force the Magpies into a very awkward situation.
This summer is unlikely to be as stressful as last year, but that's not to say we're expecting a smooth ride.
