‘Wow, this is the World Cup’ - Dan Burn gives interview from England camp

Thomas Tuchel's England side is in Florida, undergoing its preparations ahead of the start of the World Cup next week.

The World Cup officially gets underway next Thursday as Mexico takes on South Africa, but England have to wait until the following Wednesday for their tournament to get underway when they play Croatia.

England's stars flew out to Florida on Monday as the players get acclimatised and begin their preparations.

Newcastle has two representatives over there now after Anthony Gordon joined Barcelona last week. Dan Burn and Tino Livramento will be hoping to represent their country on the biggest stage.

It still hasn't hit Dan Burn that he's at the World Cup

After making his international debut at 32, Dan Burn can't believe his luck that he's actually at a World Cup, and the 6'7" defender has been speaking to England's official YouTube channel, where he said it still hasn't quite hit him yet.

“I’m just trying to take it all in. I was really excited to get here. I’m just trying to take it all in and see what happens. It's pre-camp now, so it’s still quite relaxed.

“We’re all working hard, but we’re not in tournament mode yet. I don’t think it will hit me until we’re in Kansas and it’s the build-up to the first game where I’ll think ‘Wow, this is the World Cup’.”

Burn looking forward to England's warm-up games

England have two warm-up games before they kick off their campaign. They will take on New Zealand and Costa Rica before they face off against Croatia.

Burn spoke about the importance of the warm-up games, saying that the matches give them a chance to ensure that they're executing the game plans properly.

“I think training is a difficult one because everyone knows what is happening. So when we’re doing patterns or a build-up, with everyone knowing what happens, sometimes it’s hard to pull it off.

“But it’s about taking what we’re trying to build on into the games. I feel the more time we spend with each other and repeat what the manager and staff are trying to get across, it’s making us stronger. The pre-World Cup games are more (about trying to) nail down what we really want to be good at.”
