"The juices are flowing!" - Brilliant from Jacob Murphy after Newcastle 5-0 Palace

Jacob Murphy remained humble after securing his 12th and 13th goal contributions of the calendar year with an equally impressive goal and assist against Crystal Palace.

The 30-year-old has had by far his best season in a black-and-white shirt in 2024/25. Only Mo Salah has more Premier League assists than Murphy’s 11, while his eight goals is bested only by Alexander Isak and Harvey Barnes for Newcastle.

Murphy had no right to shoot, never mind score, from a ridiculous angle to kickstart Newcastle’s rout over Palace on Wednesday. If his goal was Sandro Tonali-esque, his cross to assist Fabian Schar’s header was reminiscent of prime Kieran Trippier.

Yet still, despite drawing comparisons to Premier League greats from pundits, Murphy remained as humble as ever post-match.

Murphy on his goal and teammates

Nick Pope saved a penalty, our back four afforded little opportunity for Palace, the midfield controlled the game once again and each of the front contributed to at least one goal  - Murphy to two.

Murphy, who claimed his goal as absolutely intentional (which I’m surprised there was any doubt about personally), praised his teammates for giving their best on the pitch and explained how it’s helping him up his game.

“The juices are flowing at the moment, so I had to when I was in that position,” said Murphy of his goal from a ridiculously tight angle. “I’m always enjoying my football, I love it here. Everyone knows that. So, yeah, feeling confident at the moment.

“Everyone’s playing awesome. It really does make my job easier when everyone’s playing in such a form like this, everyone’s in such a good rhythm. It’s a joy and everyone’s going into each game super confident.”

Jacob “prime KDB” Murphy

Murphy’s insane transformation in the last few seasons has seen him grow from a Newcastle squad player that showed little other than inconsistency into a guaranteed starter that has drawn comparison to the best version of a six time Prem winner.

Jamie Redknapp uttered at half-time that the 30-year-old “is prime [Kevin] De Bruyne” based on his current form after a speech that that praised Eddie Howe, Jason Tindall and the rest of the coaching staff.

“Coaching, confidence, feeling loved. I think that’s what we need sometimes. When your boss turns around and says you’re my guy, you can really do it, you can make things happen.

“His goal involvements when you look at that, look at those numbers with the players that he’s associated with there – Salah, Isak, Jacob Murphy – if you’d have said that a few years ago, you’d have gone: ‘you are talking complete nonsense, there’s no way that’s possible.’

“But it just shows you what you can do if you can dedicate yourself, work hard, you’re playing with good players every single game.

“It’s testament to Eddie, to Jason Tindall and all the staff there because they’ve done an incredible job with him, because I personally didn’t see it.

“But it just shows you what you can do if you get a little bit of belief.”
