Player tells Sky Sports that £60m Newcastle target is "likely to go" this summer
With European football guaranteed for next season, and three consecutive windows without a first team upgrade, Newcastle are bound to make a statement signing this summer.
Looking to capitalise on wantaway players and other clubs’ own PSR concerns, who knows what could be on the cards.
But one thing feels certain; the club will finally push to bring in a new right-winger over the summer, and if the words of one Premier League captain are to be believed, one of our top targets could be on the move.
Brentford star drops Mbeumo hint
It sounds increasingly likely that Bryan Mbeumo will be on the move this summer, having enjoyed arguably the best season of his career for Brentford.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Bees’ captain Christian Norgaard addressed the rumours surrounding his teammate’s future with the club following strong links with Newcastle, and it makes for positive reading for our fans.
He said: "I am calm with what might happen with Bryan [Mbeumo] and [Yoane] Wissa because a lot of questions are asked about them and you can almost feel the worries around the place when you talk about them maybe leaving us.
"I think Bryan is likely to go, I don't know with Wissa yet, everyone is hoping he might stay. Either way, I am happy with the season they have both had because they deserve it."
Mbeumo has long been touted as the perfect replacement for Jacob Murphy as our starting right winger, so to come off such a remarkable campaign and straight into our side would be an exciting prospect.

Frank reveals Brentford stance
Last week, Brentford boss Thomas Frank also looked to be conceding that Mbuemo was bound for pastures new amidst talks it would take at least £60m to get Brentford to sell.
“If the right price — and that’s going to be expensive — is coming, then I’m pretty sure the club will be open to it,” Frank told Sky Sports last week.
“I’ve said many times: we are a selling club,” he added. “But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren’t selling clubs.”
Though Mbeumo is content at the Gtech Stadium, he has recently remarked how much he enjoys playing at St James’ Park, and the prospect of playing attacking Champions League football is an enticing offer to any player in the top flight.
Let's hope Newcastle get in early, sell the project and have the offer of Champions League football up our sleeves to tempt the Cameroonian to Tyneside.
