Newcastle set to target surprise loan move if one of two players depart - Alan Nixon
The 2025 transfer window may be make or break for both Newcastle United and Jack Grealish.
If the club cannot properly back Eddie Howe with quality signings after three windows without a major addition, then we risk dropping out of the Champions League at the first hurdle once again and struggling to repeat our 2024/25 heroics in league and cup.
Whilst Jack Grealish, in a vital World Cup year, has been told by Thomas Tuchel to find first team football for a side in European competition or face missing out on the Three Lions squad altogether.
The question continues to be asked, could the Magpies really offer the Manchester City man a lifeline, and get another Champions League-quality player so sorely needed?
What it would take for Grealish to join Newcastle
According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Eddie Howe is interested in a move for Grealish should Man City offer him out on loan next season and agree to cover a sizeable chunk of his £300,000 wages.
Although we are currently stacked for left wingers, with Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes battling to start, there is one scenario where a move for Grealish makes sense.
Nixon reveals that making a move for the former Aston Villa star 'will become even more of a Newcastle priority if offers come in for Anthony Gordon over the summer', and the same may apply should a big offer come our way for Barnes.
One year ago, Gordon was all set to depart for Liverpool in a PSR-friendly deal that may have involved Joe Gomez plus cash.
Though that didn’t come to fruition, Gordon remains perhaps our top ‘sellable’ asset. We are not encouraging it, but if Liverpool did sell Luis Diaz amidst interest from Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League, could a chain reaction of transfers encourage us to pull the trigger and bring Grealish in on loan?
Considering moves for a top goalkeeper, centre-back, right winger and striker will not come cheap - especially given the Premier League premium attached to several of our targets - Newcastle could profit from the sale of a left-winger, bring in Grealish on loan and free up funds to spend big in four or five top targets elsewhere.
Finances would have to be right
We’ve already shown this window with the Bryan Mbeumo saga that we won’t break our wage structure to accommodate one player’s demands.
Which is why it would likely require Grealish taking a significant pay cut if he was to join us, or at the very least need Man City to fund part of his wages.
All of this would be a significant gamble on a player who turns 30-years-old in just three months time, with just a single league goal and assist to his name last season.
However, some believe Howe could get the best out of Grealish, while the lack of transfer fee on a season-long loan could fre
Though wages could prove to be an issue, no transfer fee would work in our favour: allowing us to potentially spend big on the likes of James Trafford, Marc Guehi, Anthony Elanga and Joao Pedro.
