Eddie Howe hails Kieran Trippier after parting win at St James' Park
Newcastle United signed off their home campaign with a 3-1 win over West Ham United at St James' Park on Sunday evening.
West Ham made life very easy for the Magpies, who roared into the lead with two goals in four minutes in the first half. Nick Woltemade found himself back on the score sheet while Will Osula scored in either half to add to his recent tally.
The St James' Park crowd was up for this one, singing throughout and ensuring Kieran Trippier got the send-off he deserved.
Wor Flags created the perfect tribute for him ahead of kick-off, and Tripps also got a rousing ovation when he was substituted in the second half.
Eddie Howe paid tribute to Kieran Trippier again
All in all, it was a great send-off for the 35-year-old. Eddie Howe once again paid tribute to Trippier when speaking to Sky Sports at full-time.
Howe was keen to stress just how important Trippier has been behind the scenes as well as on the pitch.
"I'd like to pay tribute to him. I was pretty sure that he would help us because I'd worked with him before. I knew what we were getting. The consistency and the quality he's shown.
"The key thing for me, that people don't see, is how he's been really good in the difficult moments. He's been a stabilising presence in the dressing room."
Trippier looked emotional when he came off
Trippier looked very emotional as he took his place on the bench while the St James' Park crowd belted out Trippier Wonderland.
He's certainly going to be a big miss after this season, but it's not over yet. We expect that he'll be involved again next week down at Fulham as Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley will both miss out.
Sky Sports didn't show the full-time lap of honour, so I didn't get to see who else looked like they were saying their goodbyes, but our man on the scene will no doubt have some information.
