Eddie Howe should quit Newcastle amid transfer woes - Darren Bent
It's probably far too early in the transfer window to be raging about a lack of movement, but Newcastle United fans are certainly frustrated.
With a new CEO and a sporting director in place, we expected that things would move much more smoothly and quickly this summer in the transfer window, but so far it's a familiar story.
Most of the stories involving Newcastle are about players leaving, while as far as incomings go, we've signed a second-choice goalkeeper and seen a top target snub us at the 11th hour for a Premier League rival.
As we said, it's still way too early to get the torches and pitchforks out, but talkSPORT's Darren Bent is holding petrol and a lighter for the fans' torches.
Darren Bent would quit if he were Eddie Howe
Speaking on talkSPORT the former Sunderland striker has said that Newcastle's transfer struggles, and the fact that all of his big players are linked with moves away, would give Eddie Howe justification for walking away.
"If I’m Eddie Howe, I’m having a serious conversation with the board. I’m saying, do you know what, ‘enough is enough’. He was getting criticised last season after what he did previously, winning the cup there.
“But in terms of the investment, when you look at what they’ve lost, Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, Elliot Anderson (and possibly) Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes… people are still going to critique him if Newcastle are not competitive. What’s he supposed to do?
“He’s literally losing his five best players. If you look at the recruitment that has come in, I thought (Anthony) Elanga would be better, I thought (Yoane) Wissa would be better. It hasn’t worked. If I’m Eddie Howe, if I don’t get clarity and clear answers, then I’m out of there.
“For Eddie Howe, I feel for him because I think he’s a really good coach but what’s going on for Newcastle, for him, in terms of moving forward, is awful.”
Can we please get some positivity?
It's this kind of rhetoric that fuels those fans on social media who thrive off negativity. The fans who turn on the manager after every defeat. Having a pundit say stuff like this just emboldens the narrative.
Granted, in this case, Bent is suggesting Howe should be sacked, rather than he should walk away because the hierarchy is letting him down, but still, pointing out the negativity only increases it.
Obviously, we're all very aware of the issues right now, but this kind of thing really doesn't help when the mood is already low.
Fingers crossed there's some truth to these Felix Nemecha rumours, and we can get some positivity back up in here.
