Newcastle back in for Felix Nmecha at Borussia Dortmund - Sky Sports
Newcastle United look to have their Sandro Tonali replacement in their sights, according to several reports.
It's looking increasingly likely that Sandro Tonali will leave Newcastle this summer, which will leave a chasm in Eddie Howe's squad that absolutely has to be filled before next season gets underway.
Jacob Ramsey proved to be a decent signing last season, but we're not convinced he's of the same standard as Sandro Tonali. If we're losing someone of that quality, then we need to replace him with someone of a similar level.
That won't be easy, particularly after missing out on Europe, but if we want to continue to grow, we have to show ambition, and that's exactly what we're doing with our interest in Germany star Felix Nmecha.
Newcastle are eyeing a move for Felix Nmecha
Newcastle have been linked with Nmecha in the past, but Craig Hope, Keith Downie and The Chronicle have all dropped stories linking Newcastle with a move for the Borussia Dortmund star in the last hour.
Felix Nemcha has a release clause of £73.5m, but Craig Hope claims that Dortmund could be willing to listen to offers.
Keith Downie has claimed that Newcastle actually came close to signing Nmecha in 2023 but opted for Tonali, so things could come full circle this summer.
Felix Nmecha would be a statement signing
This would be a huge move for Newcastle, but we don't want to get too carried away just yet. None of the reports has suggested that any moves have been made as yet, and Hope has also warned of interest from Manchester United.
It will be a difficult deal to pull off, but if the Magpies manage to do it, it would certainly lift a lot of the doom and gloom over the club for a while.
If Newcastle can negotiate a deal so that we don't have to fork out the whole release clause, it would be a double win, but Felix Nmecha is easily a £70m player. He has been outstanding for Germany at the World Cup with a goal and two assists in their three group games.
It was suggested that there'd be no more 'showbiz signings', so we shouldn't be expecting Ross Wilson to be forking out £70m for one player, but with the Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali money, we surely have to do something big.
Howay, Mr Wilson, work your magic!
