Kieran Trippier set to join Wolves after Newcastle exit - Keith Downie

Kieran Trippier will remain in England when he officially leaves Newcastle United next month.

The 35-year-old made the decision to leave Newcastle when his contract expires in June.

Eddie Howe was hoping that the former England full-back would stay on, but Ross Wilson was more reluctant as he wanted to lower the average age of the squad. Trippier took the decision away from the gaffers, opting to walk away.

Trippier was given a huge send-off before the final home game of the season with help from Wor Flags, and he was given a huge ovation after the game too.

Kieran Trippier to sign two-year deal at Wolves

There were many rumours suggesting that Trippier would move abroad once again, but then reports of talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers surfaced.

Sky Sports' Keith Downie has now reported via X that Trippier has agreed a move to Wolves after recent talks.

A two-year deal with an option of a third year has been offered to the 35-year-old, who will be playing in the Championship next season.

"EXCLUSIVE: Kieran Trippier has agreed a deal to sign for Wolves. The 35-year-old has said yes to a two-year deal (plus the option of a third) with the Championship side.

"He is a free agent after his contract ended at Newcastle. The deal is pending a medical, which will take place once Trippier returns from a family holiday next week.

"Wolves fended off competition from a host of clubs in England & on the continent to land the former England international, who they want to lead their charge back to the Premier League."

Wolves dropped out of the Premier League this season and will be looking to bounce straight back, and they feel Kieran Trippier can lead them back to the top flight.

See you soon, Tripps

We are certainly surprised that Tripps has remained in Blighty, but saying that, a big part of him coming to Newcastle was to return to England, so even though his circumstances have changed, it makes sense he'd want to be closer to his kids.

Trippier will be a fantastic signing for Wolves. His leadership is exactly what they'll need next season to keep the spirits up to help them return to the Premier LEague at the first time of asking.

We wish Trippier all the luck in the world, and we hope to see him back at St James' Park soon.
