Odysseas Vlachodimos rejoins Sevilla - Newcastle confirm transfer agreement

Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos has been hoping to remain at Sevilla after a successful loan spell with the Spanish side last season.

The Greek stopper arrived at Newcastle for around £20 million as part of the quasi-swap arrangement worked out with Nottingham Forest that saw Elliot Anderson go the other way.

With the greatest of respect to the 32-year-old, nobody at Newcastle actually wanted him, but the club was in such an awkward position with PSR that they didn't really have much choice but to agree to the deal.

Odysseas Vlachodimos made just one competitive appearance for Newcastle in his first season at the club and was loaned to Sevilla last season, helping them avoid relegation.

Odysseas Vlachodimos is staying in Spain

Both Sevilla and Vlachodimos wanted to extend their relationship, but due to financial difficulties, the La Liga side couldn't afford a transfer fee, and it was believed they would even struggle to be able to afford another loan.

However, today, Newcastle United have confirmed that they have agreed a deal to allow Vlachodimos to remain at Sevilla next season on loan again.

"Odysseas Vlachodimos will remain at Sevilla for the 2026/27 campaign after signing another season-long loan with the La Liga side. Wishing you the best of luck, @vlachOD1mos"

Newcastle's goalkeeper situation is still far from resolved

Ody's contract at Newcastle runs to 2028, so there's still work to be done to find a more permanent solution, but we're glad that he got his wish to remain in Sevilla, which he made no secret of.

Newcastle still have a bit of work to do in the goalkeeper department, with Nick Pope looking for an exit and the Magpies trying to find a replacement.

Hopefully, now that all the UEFA mess is sorted and players are starting to return from the World Cup, we'll start seeing more movement in the transfer market from Newcastle.
