WATCH: Sean Steur sends Lewis Hall for a hot dog in training
New signing Sean Steur had his first training session on the grass with Newcastle United this week, and it didn't take him long to impress.
The Dutch wonderkid was snapped up in a deal that happened away from the public gaze last week, and though he isn't expected to be a starting eleven player, he will be in the first-team squad next season.
Although after seeing him in action in training, we may be seeing him more than we expected, as he looks more than ready in some aspects.
It's his physicality that's the issue. It's been suggested that he may not be strong enough for the English game right now, but there are no worries about his skills and ability with the ball. Just ask Lewis Hall.
Sean Steur looks incredible
Newcastle United posted a clip on X of Steur in action in his first training session, and the lad is looking very good.
About 28 seconds into the clip, the ball comes to Steur, and with Hall lunging in for a challenge, the 18-year-old gracefully moves the ball out of the way and sends Hall back to the dressing room to think about what he's just done.
After that, we see him playing a brilliant disguised through ball to the freshly shorn and ripped to shreds Jacob Murphy, who cuts it back for a cool finish from someone who I can't quite make out - possibly Leo Shahar, but what he's doing in that area of the pitch, who knows?
Sean Steur has already knocked Joe Willock down another step in the pecking order
It's obviously a short clip that has been curated from a whole session, so we're only seeing the best bits, but what we've seen has got us very excited for the future with this lad.
Some fans replying to the post have gone as far as to say he's jumped above Joe Willock and Jacob Ramsey in the pecking order. We'd agree with Willock, but it's too early to say he's ahead of Ramsey.
With any luck, Willock won't be a factor anyway as he'll have moved on by the time the season starts. I hate saying things like that about our players, but this is the game, and we've got to move on. Willock has proven time and time again that he's not good enough, and now he's adding persistent injuries into the mix, it's time to move on.
