Newcastle watch new right-winger target as Toon officials eye £20m deal - Report
Newcastle's search for a new right-winger has been such a drawn out process.
For a few windows now, we've expected an upgrade to arrive, with it widely accepted that Miguel Almiron needs to be replaced; especially after his £10m move to Atlanta United last month.
Jacob Murphy has done a superb job, particularly this season, but he's our only out and out right-sided option. In attacking positions, there is little doubt this is the one area we must (and surely will) address this summer.
With that in mind, a new name has been linked with a potential move to St James' Park, and could represent superb value for money based on his impressive season so far.
Newcastle watching Champions League winger
According to Craig Hope at The Mail, Newcastle United are taking a close look at Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn ahead of a potential summer move.
In his latest Newcastle Confidential piece, Hope reveals that Toon officials were in the stands at Celtic on Wednesday night for their Champions League play-off against Bayern Munich, where Kuhn was the man scouts were sent to watch.
It's believed Newcastle have watched the German on several occasions this season and there is an 'expectation' the 25-year-old will land a move away this summer.
With 17 goals and 12 assists this season, including two in the Champions League, he's been Celtic's standout player and is thought to have the pace, dribbling skills and versatility Eddie Howe values, being able to operate down either flank or in a central role.
Hope reports that an offer of £20m+ may be enough to tempt Celtic into a sale, handing them a quick profit after his £3m arrival from Rapid Vienna last January.
Kuhn added to the list of exciting options
It remains to be seen if Newcastle will push for a Premier League proven winger this summer or a talent outside the English top flight who they believe can make the step up.
We'd have to pay a premium for domestic stars such as Bryan Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo or Tyler Dibling, although reports in the Netherlands suggest PSV star Johan Bakayoko would still cost north of £40m.
Elsewhere, it's thought Monaco's talented right-winger Maghnes Akliouche has also been watched, adding to the list of exciting options up for consideration alongside Kuhn.
