Anthony Gordon now in talks to join Barcelona - Fabrizio Romano
Anthony Gordon's proposed move from Newcastle United to Bayern Munich is in doubt as the winger looks to have another destination in mind.
It had looked for a while that Anthony Gordon would be a Bayern Munich player next season after the German club leapt into the lead for his signature.
The German club has shown the most interest for a while, and it was believed that Gordon was keen on the move. The two clubs are around £15 million apart on their valuation, which has made the deal complicated.
Now things have got even more tricky for the Bavarian side as Barcelona has stepped up its interest.
Deco has met with Newcastle over Gordon
Fabrizio Romano has posted on X that Barcelona has entered talks with Newcastle over a deal and that Anthony Gordon is keen on the move.
Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona's sporting director Deco was in London recently for talks and that Gordon is now prioritising a move to Spain.
Like Bayern, though, Barcelona are reluctant to meet Newcastle's demands. Newcastle may have to lower their expectations to get a deal done, or hope that a Premier League club enters the race and bumps up the price.
This feels like it could drag on
It's becoming a huge worry that Newcastle's high demands are going to hold up the deal, and we could end up with a similar situation to that of Alexander Isak last year. Hopefully without all the disruption and strike action, though.
At the end of the day, Barcelona and Bayern Munich may not feel that Anthony Gordon is worth as much as Newcastle is asking, but that's what he's worth to the Magpies, so if they want him, they have to pay.
Newcastle needs that money to get back on UEFA's good side; they also owe a chunk of the profits to Everton, and then they need to replace him. That all adds up.
Maybe there's someone in Barca's ranks Newcastle can take as a sweetener. Somebody actually worth it, not like Alexander Nübel, as it was reported that Bayern were going to try and palm off onto us as part of their deal.
